timing belts
I'm rebuilding a 75 Wing that has been in storage for 8/10 years.
The timing belts were installed and only about 50 miles were driven before storage.
With the age on them I was wondering if they are still serviceable?
I don't mind the cost of new ones but how could I be assured the replacements are not just as old.
I sure don't one to break and bend a valve or two.

Re: timing belts
You do NOT want to run an engine on belts that have been sitting undisturbed for 8 years. Change them before starting up.
Any belts you buy are going to be reasonably fresh, and certainly haven't been sitting tight on an engine in a single position for that long.

Re: timing belts
Thanks for the conformation of my thoughts.
I found a post with some aftermarket belts.
Can I assume these have been used by members with no problems.
I think the numbers were for Gates, NAPA and Goodyear.

Re: timing belts
Gates part number T274. Less than $30.00 each where I work and surprisingly easy to install.

Gates are excellent quality, and in fact they manufacture both the Honda OEM belts as well as the NAPA belts. Goodyear also makes quality belts, although they are a bit more expensive.Barlow wrote:Thanks for the conformation of my thoughts.

Re: timing belts
Checked the Rock Auto parts list and could not find the T274 parts number.
Wasn't sure where to look.

I believe you need to use both Gates & T274 in the search field.
