GL1000 nipple source?

Post by Bugmerc »

I am restoring a 76 GL1000 and I need nipples for the wheels. I am trying to restore as much as I can and not just buy new parts if possible. The spokes are good and can be polished but the nipples are trashed. It looks like someone used vise grips on them at some point. OEM nipples are not an option as they only come with the spokes. I talked to Buchanan and their nipples won't fit OEM spokes.

Anyone know of a source for nipples? I see some on ebay for a CB750 and they are from Taiwan. Will these fit? Any better sources?

Not being a gl1000 driver, what do you mean by nipples? I am thinking valve stem and if so as originality as you are striving for didn't these bikes come with tubes or am I out of my league?

You mean the spoke adjusting nuts that fit over the end of the spoke and go through the rim - they are used to "true the wheel".

Tasked to them already, their nipples only fit their spokes.

Sorry speed reading and overlooked where you already talked to Buchanan. I can understand your trying to keep as much of the original bike as possible. One thing to consider is that spokes can either stretch out or become bent over time which can make it difficult to get a trued wheel when re-lacing a wheel using old spokes.

Good points, I may have to go with new spokes and nipples.
