Dear all,
Can anyone tell me how much torque should be put on the bolts that hold the 'retainers' for the camshafts on a 1976 GL1000? My manual states 530-570 kg-cm, but when I tightened one, taking smaller steps (as per Randakk's suggestions), it broke at 400 kg-cm. Did I use the wrong value?

Honda puts the "standard" torque values in their manuals, usually, for unspecified usage. Based on size of the bolt shank. A 5mm bolt is 4 ft-lb, a 6mm is 7. An 8mm is 16 ft-lb, a 10 is 25. A 12mm is 40. A 5mm screw is 3 ft-lbs, a 6mm is 7. A 6mm flange bolt is only 9. An 8mm flange bolt is 20 ft-lbs, a 10mm is 30. Nuts are the same.kndw wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 10:49 am Dear all,

The numbers you give are for the cylinder head bolts. Camshaft holder bolts are 250-290 kg/cm. 217-252 in/lbs about 18-21 ft lbs.
