timing belt tension
I have been told not to rely on the belt tensioners on gl1000s to put the proper tension on the timing belts so is there some type of scale or universal device to check the tension?

Re: timing belt tension
See this topic viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9774 on methods etc, it's on a 1500 so some things won't be applicable. The specification for how many lbs. of deflection evidently is the same for the 1200 and 1500. The deflection amount is not the same, 1200 deflection is 3-5 mm (per service manual). You might have a different specification for the 1000, I don't know.
