First of all, love this forum! Invaluable information in this “little” project of mine.
Bought a 79 gl1000 that was unfortunately left sitting for 9 years. Decided to take responsibility for this classic as it deserved a better life than the salvage yard. Saw it had less than 10k on it so thought, how bad can it be?My first mistake was finding this site too late...haha
Read enough posts on here to know that the carbs needed rebuilding.
Did valves after that and tried to sync it. No miracles yet.
Compression test should have been done earlier but what can you do...
All cylinders were under 100

Moving right along, re-bored all four to first oversize with lots of help. Bent conrod and worn down crankshaft bearings made for interesting online research as most of you can imagine. Thanks for bearings R!
New pistons, rings, bearings and replacement conrod.
Question: does the re-bore affect valve clearance, timing, etc?
Any information would be appreciated.
Cheers to you all.
