Tire recommendations
Looking for my second set of tires since I inherited my '78 GL 1000. I've seen recommendations for the Bridgestone BT45 and Spitfire S11, but I’m having trouble finding front and rear available in the Spitfire. Does anybody have experience with Metzeler (Lasertec?), Dunlop D404 (I had these for my last set and liked them, but I don’t have experience to compare), Michelin (Pilot Activ?)?
Thanks for any input, recommendations and suggestions.

The Spitfires aren't made anymore.goldwing1078 wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 6:06 pm Looking for my second set of tires since I inherited my '78 GL 1000. The Metzeler's are supposedly good tires altho I have not used them.
I am still running Spitfires but this is the last year for them
Will probably be going to the Metzelers as there are very few options available.

If you aren't an aggressive rider, Shinko Tour Master. Run them on all my vintage bikes and no trouble.

Re: Tire recommendations
I have 3000 miles on my Shinko tourmasters on my 79 and they still look brand new. I love the way they stick and would buy them again without a second thought.

Re: Tire recommendations
I used to run BT45's. They stick nicely, but they wore out too quickly (5k km). Now I am on my 2nd set of Avon Roadrider tires. These appear to be a bit more durable, stick well, and are quite affordable.

Re: Tire recommendations
i just took off a shinko tour master......hadn't had any trouble with it, but wished (don't we all) that i would have lasted longer. 10K doesn't seem long enough to me...am i wrong (old bike get ridden quickly, but never gobs of throttle)?
that's 10K in Kms, by the way.

Re: Tire recommendations
I've found that 10K on a rear tire is good, prob close to 2x that on the fronts.spoiledsaskhunter wrote: ↑Sat May 12, 2018 9:27 am i just took off a shinko tour master......hadn't had any trouble with it, but wished (don't we all) that i would have lasted longer. 10K doesn't seem long enough to me...am i wrong (old bike get ridden quickly, but never gobs of throttle)?

Shinkos. I've ran different models of Shinkos on a few different bikes now, and have been impressed with them on those bikes.
Just got a set for the 76 I'm getting all the old man off of

Re: Tire recommendations
Went with BT 45s, Randakk's rec and several others (http://www.randakksblog.com/tire-recommendations/). Will let you all know how I like them. Getting mounted today, so while the wheels are off, I'm wondering if I grease the rear axle or let it be... any suggestions? Other things to do while the wheels are off (besides having a couple of cold ones).
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Tire recommendations
+1 for the Shinko's. I have the Tourmasters on my my 1100 Aspencade, and have put over 4000 miles on them. They still look like brand new! Overall I'm very happy with them, especially the fact that they're under such a heavy bike. I'll be putting a set under this new 1000 I just picked up when the time comes.
