78 fork springs
Hi Everyone, my fork seals are leaking bad ,i plan on replacing them as soon as they arrive in the mail, my question for you gl lovers is after i remove the springs and measure them for fatigue, and if they are in parameters, should i keep the stock ones or is there a better performing spring i can replace with. Thanks, smitty

Do some reading on progressive springs but you prob won't like them.smittyboy734 wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 8:26 am Hi Everyone, my fork seals are leaking bad ,i plan on replacing them as soon as they arrive in the mail, my question for you gl lovers is after i remove the springs and measure them for fatigue, and if they are in parameters, should i keep the stock ones or is there a better performing spring i can replace with. If your forks leaked out all the oil, it will be a big difference just by having them in oil.

Re: 78 fork springs
when I got my gl, the front seals were leaking a little, and I didn't like the ride in general, so went the whole route......new springs and also put emulators in it. while there, I decided to put on new shocks as well (after all, they're 40 years old!). doesn't ride like the same bike and for 1300 bucks, i'd do it again.

Did you spend $1300 for the suspension or the whole bike?spoiledsaskhunter wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 9:18 pm when I got my gl, the front seals were leaking a little, and I didn't like the ride in general, so went the whole route......new springs and also put emulators in it. while there, I decided to put on new shocks as well (after all, they're 40 years old!). doesn't ride like the same bike and for 1300 bucks, i'd do it again.

..got the bike for free, in boxes. took my time and two years to go over it and get it on the road. THEN spent 1300 on the suspension. it's got 75 thousand Km on it and will be the last road bike I ever own (i'm 67!)

Could you share which emulators you got, and their price? I'm interested in getting those too, but haven't found a set for a gl1000spoiledsaskhunter wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 9:18 pm when I got my gl, the front seals were leaking a little, and I didn't like the ride in general, so went the whole route......new springs and also put emulators in it. while there, I decided to put on new shocks as well (after all, they're 40 years old!). doesn't ride like the same bike and for 1300 bucks, i'd do it again.

Re: 78 fork springs
try racetech.com enter the year/model of your bike and it will show you the ones that will work. you will need new fork springs, and they will have to be constant rate springs.....progressive springs will not work. buy constant rate springs one step softer than those that are recommended.
