Goldwing Tank
Has anybody had experience of the Fuel Tank pick up pipes being blocked due to old petrol being left in the tank. I bought a 1975 GL1000 from a mate who reassured me he had drained the tank and carburetors of fuel when it last run six yrs ago. I put Evaporust in the tank which is quite rust free and managed to clear the main pipe with Carby clean and pushing a sharp coat hanger wire down the pipe and cleaning the strainers but the reserve pipe is still blocked, I get my wire 20cm down the pipe. Has anybody used anything that dissolves the fuel contamination? Or is it a emplacement tank

People have used guitar strings, speedo cables and the like attached to a drill.Biddy56 wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 3:15 am Has anybody had experience of the Fuel Tank pick up pipes being blocked due to old petrol being left in the tank. Using anything sharp could puncture the tubes I'd think.

I just went through the same thing, only it was the main tube that was blocked. I used a piece of steel cable in a drill and finally broke through it, it was tough.

Good ideas I'll try the brake/speedo cable ide, the mail pipe was tough but the reserve is presenting a real problem being longer. The carbs will be fun to do
I have a small sonic cleaner which may work I hope

Re: Goldwing Tank
Most of the GL1000 tanks that I have cleaned have blocked tubes. I pour acetone through the holes where the petcock connects and then use a drill with weed eater cutting line strips. Get the kind that is twisted, not the round. You can get these from Sears in red (stiff) and black (stiffer).

Re: Goldwing Tank
Broke through my fuel pipes completely after another few hours of drilling. The short story is that the carbs now flood because after removing the carbs and bowls they have the same brown paste through them. I have a small sonic cleaner I can put them in one at a time. Any comments on the best carby kits to buy and where to buy them from. I am in Australia so shipping from the US is very expensive. Thanks for all the comments and ideas, I used a wire which hangs net curtains ( Drapes I believe they're called in the US. ) cut of the plastic sleeve, it is very flexible but cuts well, went through 3 metres of it before breaking through

The ONLY carb kits to buy are Randakk's.Biddy56 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 12:32 am Broke through my fuel pipes completely after another few hours of drilling.
