What's up with the red dots?
Like the title says. There's red dots in various places on my 76. One on each front caliper, on on the back of the swingarm, and one on the fuel cap. Anybody know the story behind that?

For what it's worth, my 83 Aspencade has zero red dots.

It was a lottery prize winner back in the day.

Oh wow how cool! My bike must be worth 10 times more!
I'm sure it was just a production line thing. Just curious why my 83 and my CB750 don't have any markings, but the 76 does. All 3 are totally stock. I find that kind of stuff interesting.

Are you the only owner of the '76? If not, perhaps those parts were changed out from a motorcycle wrecking yard, and the red dots were put on by the recycler. I have seen this on car parts, in yellow. Just a thought.

My 76 has them also. I wish you hadn't asked though. Now I will wonder and probably never know why. lol

Re: What's up with the red dots?
My '77 used to have them until they got painted over. Calipers and swing arm. Don't have one on the gas cap.
Maybe a production line check mark for "assembly complete/tested" ? My other bikes have lots of yellow paint marks on them at various assembly points.

Those were factor identification for a test pass. If the caliper had a red dot, it passed the test.
Re: What's up with the red dots?
i dont know what the dots mean but i do know they are there from the factory not from a breakers like suggested. i used to build hondas out of the crate. every gl1000 i have ever seen either building them or working on them. i was a multi franchise main dealer tech for 40 odd years so ive seen quite a few. some other models had them too. hope this helps.

Those were Honda factory identification for a test pass. If the caliper had a red dot, it passed the test and could be shipped. Sorry my post above had a typo.
