New owner with 'project' bike in the UK
Hello all.
Found this site after buying a 'project' to rebuild.
[... should perhaps have listened to my own advice >> "Never buy a bike that someone else has dismantled ..."]
It is a '1976 GL1000K1' but all in boxes .... six of them.
Using a Honda Parts List from this site plus the Haynes manual (yes I've heard it - 'The Haynes Book Of Lies') which actually has some decent photos amongst the howlers and miscaptioned illustrations --- I'm slowly working out what I've got and not got .
It was described as a "complete bike" but the list of missing parts is growing.
Please forgive me if I ask for help identifying parts or with other queries - it is an uphill task but I have worked on bikes many times before retirement.

I'm doing a 1976 myself right now, I also brought it home in 6 big boxes the first time in 1997,put it together and meet my wife on it. Gave it to a retaliative when I bought a new Vulcan Nomad. 18 years later I found it setting in pieces in a old guys basement. I'm doing a thread on the restore if your interested. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=43309
Post some pic's as you go, and you'll get some great feedback here.

Great.
Thanks. Will certainly read your thread with interest.
I cannot understand how 'the dismantler' of my bike managed to 'lose' so many odd small pieces !
[ I reckon a vital box of bits has been mislaid]
A friend likened it to " a mechanical jigsaw " - but I have always liked a challenge.

That's the problem I ran into also, lot's of little stuff to find. I have bought a lot of OEM hardware from Bikebandit, but find this vendor have a bigger selection and better pricing, but have yet to use them. Going to order a bunch of stuff this morning from them, I'll let you know how they work out. https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/#&panel1-1

Interesting. I tick "Remember Me" box at Login - but it does not remember me and log me in automatically as other sites do ?
Back to the bike.
I've just located and bought a 98% complete, unseized, "1977 GL1000" engine.
Only carbs have been unbolted complete [vendor to sell separately]- but I have the full undamaged set off mine to use.
[I thought it would solve the issue of all the missing engine parts.]
Discovered :-
It has electronic internals instead of points. NOT Dyna marked. Looks like tiny "K&S" on back of plate. 3 wires [red, white, black.]
Noticed the coils looked standard ? I'm no expert on electronic swaps !
Slight puzzle over engine number - it reads GL1E - (3?)025508 but the 3 is poorly stamped.
Not sure what year or which market ?

Should have added :-
Also located/bought - all 3 calipers, front and rear master cyls., 'aeroquip' hoses, fuel filler, kickstart lever, odd knobs and bits .... so we are getting somewhere.

Hope you bought a good one, some are real crapola and the paper inside collapses.

I did mean fuel filler.
I.E. the screw down cap that fits the fuel tank. [Mine had gone astray whilst the bike was in bits]
But thanks for the warning about fuel filters - duly noted.

Does anyone have or know about the K&S electronic ignition ? [I'm assuming it is 'ancient']

Nobody seems to know about that variety of electronic ignition.
I'll revert to points ( with some NOS Daiichi sets).

As specifically regards a fuel FILTER - I have bought a new one from David Silver here in the UK. Fingers crossed.
