Shroud on a GL1000 (Known as mongrel plate)

Part Number 62401-371-980
I am interested to know if anyone has decided to omit this part when rebuilding a GL1000, and what its function is??
If the reinforcing bars are still used when re-installing the motor is there a case for leaving this plate out, I cant really see what its function is.
Other than possibly a heat shield??
would love to hear from anyone with enough technical knowledge to explain the need or not for this part...

It is a heat shield to keep the radiator heat off the carbs, they get too much heat as is. I know of no good reason to leave out out.

Thanks for that, In that case I wont consider it! it just seemed to me that it was kind of superfluous since when the rad gets too hot the fan comes in to cool it down and would cool the carbs as well most likely??
Thanks for your answer to my query..
Regards John

The fan doesn't make cold air. It pulls air through the radiator where heat is transferred to the air and blown out hotter than it came in. I suppose that shield also keeps heat off the rider somewhat but you could take it out and see if it makes you cooler.
