A Little Help With Battery Wiring?

Continuing with my revamp of the wiring on my 'new' '76 LTD... I need to know what the wiring should look like near the starter relay(?). I think the PO might have "tapped into" power in this area and I want to return it to a stock configuration. Here are some pix of what I have now. Note that I replaced the dogbone fuse with a 30A bayonet inline fuse because the fuse holder was damaged and didn't look safe.

Could someone send a pic or two of the stock wiring here? Thanks again. Ron

The battery is the proper place to get power to a relay for ignition or lighting or... I would not be in a hurry to set that back to stock as a relay for the ignition helps the Spark quite a bit. A pure stock 76 Ltd sounds nice but one that runs strong sounds better to most of us.

Plus if he swapped out the dogbone, which is a great idea, it will never be 100% stock.

My intent is not to return it to pure stock ie for investment purposes, etc, but to maximize reliability and understand what I have, exactly, and be able to rely on the service manual going forward.

Thanks for your words of wisdom, but I would still appreciate a visual of what the wiring should look like near the positive battery terminal and the starter relay. The PO cut into the plastic cover, and I want to eliminate any remaining nefarious wiring.

Can anybody help?

Mine's not stock either but it looks like if you cut out about 1/4 mile of that red wire and put your fuse between it and both wires in that 2 pin connector you would be good.

I did this repair 20 years ago and it has held up well. As you can see ,my battery cable is short and the 30 amp spade fuse is run between the battery positive and the original wiring for the 12v hot that operates ,horn, ignition, fuse box, etc.. I would recommend replacing or shorting the big red cable you have now. It also looks to me that hte ignition wires are wired direct to the battery with the ground going to the battery holder bolt.
