Can someone who has a '78, or I'd suppose a '79, GL1000, preferably a factory correct original/restoration, give me the measurement for the location indicated in the photo?
My pipes, when viewed from behind, are uneven by about 1", one being lower, or higher, than the other. I'd like to know the correct measurement.
Thank you....................Dave

Re: Uneven Exhaust Pipes
Hi Dave:
I just measured my exahust pipe's bike and really never noticed it, they're not even.
So with the bike on its center stand the rear wheel is about 1" off the ground, and left pipe is at 13.6" while the right one is at 13", now I don´t know whether this is helping you somehow or adding even more confusion to the issue.
Mario.

Thanks Mario. That's very interesting. When I initially posted, I believed that one was 1"(+/-) lower than the other. A couple of days ago I made an accurate measurement and they're only 1/2" apart. The right pipe is 13.75" and the left pipe is 13.25". It doesn't sound like much, but that half inch difference, from a visual standpoint, is quite obvious. I just don't like it, and I have to fix it.gipsy42 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 8:27 pm Hi Dave:

Mario.
But thanks for taking the time to measure your pipes. I think since your measurements are so close to mine, I'm just going to pick one, and even them both up. I mainly wanted to know which side was wrong, and then I could work on that particular side. But yours are also a half inch out, so maybe it is just the nature of the beast. Although I can't really see Honda leaving them that way.
Cheers........Dave

Mine are never even. It is dependent on the exact angle they are rotated on the collector box, and the exact amount of distance between them and the hangers on the frame when they are bolted in place...I've tried over the years to get them exactly the same, but I basically have given up and use the "ehhh...close enough" method of lining them up.
