76 GL1000 LTD Vetter

Did these bikes come with the fairing? Doesn't seem like it and if not I'll store it somewhere. They all came naked and then a dealer added fairings? Thanks for the info.

No Goldwings had fairings until the 1980 GL1100 Interstate came along. Up until then, it was aftermarket manufacturers like Vetter that produced fairings, trunks and saddlebags that could be bolted onto the Goldwing.

Honda clued into what the aftermarket was doing, and started building the 1100 with fairings and luggage.

Thought that was the case. Some PO drilled holes in the fairing and mounted LTD emblems on it to make it look oem I guess. Confusing, thanks for the straight poop.

Good luck trying to sell it. Someone might want the frame, but I ended up giving mine away and saw it the next month by the curb for trash. Everyone seems to like neked now.

Being the proud owner of a '76 LTD myself, I'm curious as to whether you have any pictures of your bike with that set up. Any that you can post here?

I like the look of it but the wiring is kinda bodged with extras added here and there, and the harness was scabbed into the headlight bucket that's still in place with those connectors you use to patch into existing circuits. The headlight in the Vetter barely glowed and the turn signals were dim and wouldn't blink. But hey, the radio worked

I may reinstall it at some point, but for now I'm better off without it. I live five miles up a gravel canyon road and it beats all the extra plastics to pieces. I had an 83 Yamaha Venture and it rattled and bounced the fairing and bags enough to cause cracks and breakage.

No idea what's going on with the seat...

Those aren't the correct wheels for the LTD.

Or are you showing 2 different bikes?

Nope, same bike. I don't have any history for it other than I bought it from just outside Albuquerque and the guy had it several years. I ran the serial numbers after I found out the wheels were wrong but it codes out as a 76 LTD, number 845 in the line for both frame and motor. I've been looking at pics around the net to see what else may be missing.

I also have the Camaro Green 76 Standard, turns out same guy had both bikes. You can really tell the same dude had his hands on both.

If I can figure out what the forks came off of I may be able to sort where the wheels came from. There's two gold fronts on ebay right now but not really budgeted for that at the mo.

Those are Lester Alloy wheels. Highly desirable to some and I'm sure you could sell them at a good price easily......if you're thinking of changing them, of course!

I haven't seen any pictures of the fork brace setup that's on this bike, and a quick search doesn't show any GLs with it installed. Went and looked again, now I see the brace is aftermarket and not part of the forks. The other thing is the front master hose is about a foot too long and looped around the triple tree. What with the alloy wheels I figured the PO lifted the whole setup off another bike. So the forks may be original after all. Being new to the GL world it's a learning curve for me; doesn't help when a PO does this stuff. Slowly learning what to look for, thanks for the help. ;)

Here are before and after pics of mine that I bought from the original owner back in June. I obviously have a ton of stuff ready for Ebay (fairing, trunk, air horns, lower air dam, auxilliary side fuel tanks, etc). The fork brace and (homemade?) leather gators are of course non-stock.

Fork brace looks like what I have. You can also see the blue wire scabs in this shot and the bottom loop of the extra foot of brake hose.

Wow. Plenty of travel room for the handlebars.. I might suggest you go with braided steel lines, at least in front. The rear can be a real bugger to replace.

Almost pulled the trigger on some the other night; Randakks wants 183 for the set, can't pop that much right now.
