78 gl1000 turnsignal mount thread size
I am trying to find out if the turn signal mounting stalks from an earlier wing will fit my 78. The OEM parts #'s do not match but it appears they might work (going by the pics). The female threads on my bike are 14mm with a 1.5 pitch. Would really like to find out the male thread size on the mounting stalk before I order these or if anyone has used earlier 75, 76 or 77 stalks on a 1978 bike? Thanks for any help you can give. The vendor of the items I am looking at are a little vague on fitment.
Re: 78 gl1000 turnsignal mount thread size
I hope you have this sorted out by now, but in case you have not I will try to help you. I recently bought a pair of stems for my 78 GL1000 from ebay and when they arrived they would not fit because the threads on them were M12 x 1.5. When I questioned ebay about it the informed me that there was an error in their fitment specs and that the correct stems were not available. In order to get my bike completed I installed m12 x 1.5 heli coils into the forks and shortened the threaded portion of the stems as required so they would fit properly. This worked very well and was a quick fix and you can not tell from looking at them.
I hope this helps.

In my case it was the rear ones that did not fit. Saber Cycle said they would fit and they had "never had any complaints". What a crock that was. I have now bought from them twice, the first and the last time. My buddy has a lathe and made some 12mm adapters to screw into the 14 mm threads on the 78 taillight assembly and all is OK. Not stock but look good to the uninformed. I was pleased with the work he did to make the adapters. Thanks for your interest at this late date though.

Never heard that one before....
Let me guess, they also told you that it was your fault, and that you didn't know what you were doing, right? Standard practice for them.
