1977 GL1000 GOLDWING camshaft belts
I have purchased a 77 gl1000 came with extra parts. I have extra camshaft belts. What is the shelf life on these, if never installed and still in envelope they were shipped in?

Like all rubber parts, the years do as much damage as the miles.

The primary killer of rubber is ozone. So while years will deteriorate rubber no matter what, if the belts were sealed in a their original plastic bag, they will be in far better condition than if they were not hermetically sealed against environmental ozone.

Location also has a big impact. I know in some parts of the country, things like rubber bands last for decades, where near Los Angeles smog they crumble to bits in short order.

For what a pair of belts cost, if you don't know, pitch them.Goldwinguser123 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 11:32 am I have purchased a 77 gl1000 came with extra parts. I have extra camshaft belts. What is the shelf life on these, if never installed and still in envelope they were shipped in?
Belts are very cheap.
