Best Tires For Longevity

Post by landisr »

My baby needs new shoes, and I would appreciate the membership's thoughts on which tires get the best mileage. I remember back in the day that at least on my BMW airheads I only got 6 or 7,000 miles on a set. My 76 LTD is so smooth and comfortable that I'm hoping to put some decent miles on it, but hope tire replacement intervals have improved over the decades.

Really? My '74 BMW R90 regularly got 12,000 out of a rear, and 22,000 out of a front. I always ran Continentals on it. I put over 172,000 miles on that bike.
My '99 Goldwing got 18,000 out of the last Michelin Commander II on the front.
I have yet to wear out a rear car tire, so I can't say how long one will last.
I'd say go with Commander II tires if you can find them in the right size
for your bike.

Thanks, OC. I do get close to 20,000 miles on a set on my 1500, too.
