Need a gut check please
Found this 1978 1000 GL on Craislist, it is local and I am trying to get set up to look at it in person.
Guy is asking $250.00 Any initial gut feelings??

Probably need a good deal of TLC to get it going, but appears to be a complete bike. I'd say worth $250, you could easily recover that parting it out if the engine was toast. 'Wing engines are pretty bullet-proof, likelihood of it being toast is small.

Thanks,
I was thinking pretty much the same , funny thing is it just a few blocks away on my street, I have walked past it hundreds of times and always tell myself to go knock on the door and find out if it is for sale. Have an appointment to see it in about 30 minutes.

Looks like it hasn't been run in a long time.
Like any old Goldwing, I wouldn't even THINK about starting that engine until the timing belts were changed.

Just got back from looking at it, engine is seized , brakes are shot, radiator has been patched and the gas tank full of rust, I passed, more work than I would have time for.

Wise. I gave $125 and drove 400 miles RT for a '79 that was not only incomplete, but was rusted up inside. Doubt I'll get much use at all out of it.

The plastic and the exhaust are easily worth 2-3x that price alone.
That's if they are in good condition.
Easily could get a $100 or so for the carb set as well.

Yeah I am sure, both mufflers were dented, plastic intact but paint was bad, carbs were questionable, the bike has ben left out of doors in the Florida humidity and rain for at least 2 years that I know of, and just worth listening to "she who must be obeyed" about what I going to do with the left over stuff. I have some what limited storage, I was hoping it was half way decent and I could just tinker with it, I am not setup for a full frame up restoration project at this time.

Exactly what I did, I have not been back by the house to see if someone took a chance on it, but I think he is going to have a tough time unloading that one, to many decent or semi-decent bikes available in this area, just south of Daytona Beach. People get the bike bug twice a year during the local rallies and buy bike on impulse, old garage queens show up from time to time that are in pretty good shape.

It's amazing the difference in price for bikes here in the northeast vs Fla.M61A1MECH wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 4:55 amExactly what I did, I have not been back by the house to see if someone took a chance on it, but I think he is going to have a tough time unloading that one, to many decent or semi-decent bikes available in this area, just south of Daytona Beach. 50% higher here on average.
