Electrical short?
So I have a 76 gl1000 and last year I got caught in the rain for 10 minutes and then shut bike down as soon as i got in garage. The next day i went to start it and the 5 amp fuse just below the top 10 amp blew.. so I replace it and blew agian..
Forward to this year.. i went out and did a continuity test with no fuse... and still have continuity .. to both sides. Looking like maybe the power for blinkers and horn may have melted somewhere in harness it the only thing I see on diagram in the same area.. any thoughts or tips?

Ok..so you turn on the key and it pops the fuse..Is the headlight still on?will it crank and start?Does the brake light work?
All with the popped fuse?
Or is the bike completely dead.

Re: Electrical short?
As I look.A blown 5 amp fuse would leave the bike still able to run.

Re: Electrical short?
So I'll post a pic of what I'm talking about. The red circles are points that have continuity. All connect to one another no matter how I tested it..not good... also what really got me was the 5 amp fuse.. /second from top/.. when I took fuse out it still had continuity
.

No parking lights. No horn. no headlight. None work at this moment. When I get home tonight I'll look at it more and try to get more info than just the vague info I have provided so farvirgilmobile wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 3:20 pm My first question. What doesn't work on the bike?

Hello . I am haveing the same problem with my 77 i have turn signals but the gage temp light fuze the same 5 amp keeps blowing . And no headlight ether . It had a wind jammer ferring that i removed and the scotch locks as well. I am haveing a hell of a time finding the problem. It acts like a dead short popping the fuse instantly when key on.

So i found the starter button was shorting out and solenoid so one must have taken the other out... high resistance in stater button?? Or solenoid?? both worked good before that rainy day. We will never know.. lol
