New and engine help needed

Post by DanFrank »

Hi guys,
I bought yesterday a 1977 Cafe racer styled GL1000.
One of the cylinder is not working at all when the engine runs.
I checked if the plug works and it does. Checked compression in this cylinder and seems all right. I might be mistaken but it seems that this cylinder just doesn't get fuel.

What would you do next? After checking that the plug works and the electrics are fine and the cylinder's compression is good...

Thanks a lot for your help, need it a lot 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I would guess you have a blockage in a carb. Loosen the drain screw on the carb for the non-running cylinder. If no fuel comes out, you have a problem with the float or needle valve. If the bike hasn't been run for a while, the carbs would probably benefit from a complete strip/clean.
Also, if you don't know when they were done, replace the timing belts asap.

Amazon sell them. Gates T-274. About $20 each.
