New to this forum and new to the GL 1000. But not new to fixing bikes though

I have a question i hope you can help with.
My clutch wont disengage ( Pulls forward with clutch leaver fully in)
The previous owner changed the clutch cable and on the test run it was able to disengage but it was slipping a little bit at higher revs.
So I decided to adjust the cable today and must have messed up.
So I released all cable tensioners (Leaver and on right side of engine.
Then I removed clutch plate on back of engine. I loosened the lock nut and screwed the adjuster all the way in and 3/4 turn back as per manual. Tightened the lock nut while holding counter with a screw driver
But when I tighten the cable and have the appropriate slip in the leaver grip at the ball end, the clutch does not fully disengange when pulled.
I have tried letting the adjuster screw be all the way in, 0.5 turn out and 1 full turn out but same result.
I have also tried having the bike on center stand and reving to 2000rpms in 1.st and the "slamming" the brake.
Im at the end off my ideas. only thing i can think off is changing oil, but not really sure if its far fetched.
Any you smart people have any ideas or can see from the above where I messed up?
Thank you very much in advance for you answers!!
Have a great day.
