Carburetor rebuild help

Im rebuilding my gl 1000 1978 carb and I need help / I can't take the carb pucks + float
valve assembly out .
I saw that the carb pucks can be drilled (not something I want to do) Do you have any suggestions?

First, get the carbs hot with a heat gun and then use WD40 on them. Let them soak a while. Next, get them hot again and then insert a rubber tipped air nozzle into the idle air jet hole. Cover any holes where air leaks out with your fingers so as much air pressure as possible goes to the puck. If this doesn't work, use an xacto knife or razor blade. Be very careful but pry on the edge of the puck very slowly. Do this all the way around the edge and it will move slowly up.

The stuck float valve will probably be destroyed but it will come out using this procedure. First warm the carb up with a heat gun and spray WD40 into the float valve hole. Heat is your best friend :). Use small vice grips or a pair of pliers and try and turn the float valve before trying to pull it out. Get it loose as possible by turning it and then attempt to pull it straight up with pliers.

One other tip is to cover the carb with a cloth of some kind before blowing air into the passage. These little boogers seem really stuck then all of a sudden pop out under air pressure when least expected. They then try to find a place to hide in your shop. Once they hide they can be hard to find, I know this from experience :o

I did mine a couple of years ago and two of the pucks were stuck solid. I eventually resorted to drilling them and using a self-tapping screw (not sure what you call them in the US) to pull them out. Just make sure you only drill a few mm into them. I bought the Randakks kit, which comes with replacement pucks, so I wasn't worried about destroying the old ones. One of my needle valves refused to budge as well, but I just made sure it was clean, polished with some chrome cleaner on a Q tip and it's been fine ever since.
