engine swap 1100 -1200

Post by nk1812 » Sat Feb 15, 2020 10:14 am

I have a few gl1100s, and I'm fairly new to the goldwing scene and ran into a few issue since joining.
I picked up my 1st gl1100 and firing up after it sitting for a few months piston met valve and it's been a slow process of complete tare down of the engine and replace and rebuild. As I've made head way with this project I've seen several 1200 engines for sale and was interested if there was a possibility that the 1200 engine could work with the original 1100 frame and electrics? I ask this considering i might have to bore out the cylinders on the original engine that I took off the frame.

I'd appreciate any and all input, before I proceed down another rabbit hole..

Have you sourced all the parts you'd need to rebuild the 1100

Im still unsure as to what all would need to replaced with the swap. I read in the few discussions that i found that the final drive was a concern that was brought up. But I wasn't aware about hydraulic clutch or the update to a electric fuel pump.
But for the engine I have I'm a little concerned out costs of labor for the fix or the initial damage. I have those bits, it was just a thought that came up from others I talked to.
