Re: Steering Lock
Well, looks like that's a big NO.
Anyways, I did replace the steering lock as there wss no key from the previous owner, and
what a faff it was.
My advice to anyone even contemplating this task is, don't even bother.

Re: Steering Lock
I did it on my CB500T, Dan. Pain in the backside. My 'Wing is now sporting a US frame, after rust rendered the original UK one useless, so I have the US setup on it, where it's incorporated into the ignition switch.

Re: Steering Lock
That's very interesting and I wasn't aware of that so thank you.
I often use an Abus granite disc lock, but the shackle part of the lock (the 'U' bit) doesn't always drop easily through the hole in the brake disc. It's more luck than judgement finding the sweet spot where it just drops in.

Re: Steering Lock
Incidentally, Dan, it's worth checking the centre stand support cross-member each year for any signs of cracking at each end and remove and grease the stand pivot tube. It's a lack of lube on this that causes the frame to crack. The first signs are when both wheels are touching the ground when on the stand. Looking at yours, I think you're fine, but check regularly for peace of mind.

Re: Steering Lock
Thanks Maz. Will check it out this weekend.
Today I had the bike mot'd and all good. Mot man told me that these GL1000s suffer from rust on the central lower part of the frame LHS. Apparently, water gets in at the top through an unsealed section of the frame. However, he told me that mine looks fine and could not find any issues with poor framework leading to water ingress.
Last year, when I took the engine out for the first time, I found the removable frame member to be shot which I replaced.
