Cam pulley
How to get the marks to align this is on a 1978 Gl1000 new to the bike. Need help please.

Never had one apart, but I would check the how to articles. Are you changing pulleys, if the other side is correct and this cam is correct I would say your one spine out. Check the how to section.

That might be one of the engines where the rocker is on a lobe and cam won't stay put, if I get the "confused" question? Clamp the pulley down.

Be sure to. Roll it over by hand to make sure everything is correct and a piston doesn’t hit a valve.

Set the crank pulley to the spot on the timing mark, the cam pulleys have the word 'UP', UP needs to be at 12 o'clock. When at that point the side marks will line up.
Use a 12 mm wrench to hold the pulley in position, slip belt on so the teeth hold the pulley mark in place(it might be 1/2 tooth off but not more then 1/2 tooth off)

Man I just want to say thanks you guys are awesome for real no one around me wants to work on my bike because "it's to old " lol so I have been googling everything and YouTube everything and well I thank you. May you all ride long..
