Adding pictures to your message
It's easy to include pictures in your messages. With the release of the new software, it's now even easier.
First, I'll show you the traditional method, which is similar to the old method - then I'll show you the new, improved method.
When you're writing your message, you'll see tabs below the text entry area that say "Options", "Attachments" and "Poll creation". Click on the "Attachment" tab. You'll now see the "Add files" button:
Click on the "Add Files" button. It will open a prompt for you to select an image file from your computer. Select the image file, and the system will begin uploading it. The new, improved system doesn't make you wait while it uploads: You can continue writing your message while the image uploads in the background. Or, add more images by clicking the "Add Files" button again - once the first one finishes uploading, it will begin uploading the next one automatically.
It's a good idea to type a description of the image into the "File Comment" section. This gets tagged with the image, and not only helps people understand what your image is, but helps search engines understand what is in your image, so that people elsewhere on the Internet can find your picture.
If you accidentally uploaded the wrong image, just click "Delete file." this will delete the image from your message, but will NOT delete the image from your computer.
This will make the image(s) appear at the bottom of the message. If you want the image to appear in a specific place within the message, make sure the cursor is where you want the image to appear, then click the "Place inline" button next to the image you want to insert. You will see something like this in the message:
When the image is viewed (or previewed), this text will be replaced with the actual image.
The Easy Method
I mentioned there is a new, improved method of adding images to your message. All you have to do is drag the image from your computer into the message editing area. This will automatically upload the image. It will NOT add it to the message - you'll still need to modify the File Comment and then place the image in the message with the Place Inline button. But it's much easier than manually clicking the Add Files button to add images.
If you have any questions or issues, please don't hesitate to speak up!

Re: Adding pictures to your message
As I found out , windows Paint can change it's "save as" file extension from a jpg to a jpeg. The thing looks the same but the site says it's a invalid file type.
I think my computer is becoming self aware. It knows how to push my buttons.

Re: Adding pictures to your message
I have to agree with the computer being aware of what you like to do and keep you from it. Mine has been doing that for awhile. I am just glad my bike don't get like that....lol

Apple has decided that they know best (as usual), and that you shouldn't be able to do this on your iPhone. You can do it with an Android phone with no problem.
I have read that there are a couple native iPhone apps that can help you do this, but I don't have an iPhone, so I can't vouch for them or their viability:

You can't attach image files to a PM, but you can link to externally hosted images using the "Img" tags.fysty-1 wrote:How you add a pic to a PM? there is no "upload" choices.

Re: Adding pictures to your message
Thanks for the warm welcome all the way from my neighbor to the north. I have visited Canada several times before but always to Toronto and Montreal and always by car. I have yet to do it by cycle. Plus too with passport and border crossing issues I have not been in quite a while. Still dream of the Pacific Northwest here and across the border. I think this forum might help me get the LTD back under me. She is an original.fysty-1 wrote:Ok way to go KN. You did it! Welcome to the site from Canada's west coast. Angela aka fysty-1

I'm trying to post a video saved on my computer. It's 83 MB, but nothing happens after I hit the attach button. Will these instructions work for adding a video to your post?

Re: Adding pictures to your message
You can embed YouTube videos quite easily just by just pasting the YouTube URL into your post. I don't allow the uploading and embedding of video files directly into messages for three reasons:cardinal wrote:OK, I can add a picture Ok, why not a video?
- Video files are huge, and storage costs money
- There are hundreds of different video formats and variations therein, and not everyone has browsers that can view every format
- YouTube does it better, and eliminates the first two reasons as issues!
The only downside to embedding YouTube videos is that if the original uploader deletes the video from YouTube, it also disappears from the forum.

Yes, just click the "Img" button, and paste the URL of the image in between. You'll end up with something like this:cardinal wrote:Sounds good. I'll give it a try when I get home tonight.
