Ticking

Post by slackerdk »

Hi good people,

I need some advice.
GL1000 76
I have a ticking sound coming from the left side of the engine (riders left) It sound like it's from the front part.

I have adjusted the valves 2 times and everything seems in order as per manual.

Any ideas as to what it can be?

Thanks in advance.
Br Steffe.

Take look in this topic "if it sounds like the valves are too loose"
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=43201&p=267071#p267071

In the above case, it turned out the valve stem tips were damaged. It can also be the pistons in the carburetors. Then maybe synchronization helps. There are a lot of suggestions in that topic.

have you changed the timing belts ? if not, you should (interference engine). could be a frayed belt slapping against something. i have never personally seen this on a wing but quite common on the old v-belts.

Thank you for the suggestion.
Both belt where changed in march and the bike has only done 70 miles since then.
I seem to remember the sound also being there prior to belt changes.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.
