1978 GL1000 Seat replacement

Post by burgerdude »

Hello, I am the proud owner of a 78 GL1000, I have not ridden it since 2015 so now I notice the seat is ripped and the seat pan has some deterioration in from where my thighs would hit if I stand on the bike. So I am planning to replace the seat. I have read a few places that a GL1100 seat would fit this model. I am asking if anyone could confirm this. I like the plastic core seat pan and would trade that for my rusty seat pan any day. My 83 GL1100 had a nice Corbin seat that I fell in love with. Unfortunately it was the wrong color to swap it out before the bike left me.

FWIW, I recovered a dual saddle seat after 40+ years due to deterioration and threads breaking. It was not that expensive and allowed me to wire brush and repaint that rusty seat pan as well as clean almost half a century of dirt from under the seat. Any good upholstery shop should be able to do the work and will replace the foam if needed.
