ignition lock/switch detents

Post by winguyjo »

are the detents built into the lock section or the switch section ? i know they are sold as a unit, but i may be able to put a working unit together from the hoard.

well ... to answer my own question, it's both.
the lock assembly has grooves cast into the section that mates with the plastic switch, which itself has 2 spring-loaded balls which drop into each of those grooves as you turn the key, providing a "detent".

all of this is probably not much use to anyone, since these lock/switch assemblies are still available, but if you are like me and have a hoard of parts at your disposal and intend to use them whenever possible, it might be useful to know.

p.s. ... still trying to get a switch and lock to play well together :( .
