1800 into a gl1000 frame

Post by Vil8er »

Hi all....
I habe a 77 gl1000 that im building into a custom bike. Its stripped diwn to the frame and i installed a monoshock system.
My question is will a 1800 or a 1500 fit into this frame? Im getting ready to buy one or the other once i find out.

Thanks in advance

Not without a lot of torch work and revamping everything.

on the 1800, the engine is part of the 'frame'.

If you want a 1500 or 1800 buy one, it will cost you more to buy the parts and all the other problems you will have. It's a 1000 you can probably get away with a 1100 or 1200 motor.

I don't think there are enough mounting/hiding places on a stripped down 1000 frame for all of the assorted peripheral components (ie crap) in order for the 1500 or 1800 to actually RUN. But then again, you have probably already started the thinking process for that. 😁

Length is gonna kill your joy, 1000 is a shorter 4 cylinder while the 1500s and 1800s are 6 cylinders.

Thanks everyone for the info, i went ahead and bought a 75 gl1000. The monoshock 77 frame is pushed to the side for the time being.
