75 mechanical advance shaft O.D. too small for Dyna rotor?

Post by Magonsterz! »

I was swapping out my blown 79 long block for a 75 long block and removed 75 points to swap in dyna kit from the 79 found that that 75 mechanical advance shaft od was smaller than the 79. The dyna rotor was too big for the 75 mechanical advance shaft and had to also swap in mechanical advance from 79 as well. Has anyone else encountered this?

Also, when setting static timing with light the light cam on before got to f2, stayed on through a bit of rotation then went off, same for the f1 setting for both the blue and yellow wires. Is this normal. There was not a instant on at the timing mark nor instant off once past....

79 mechanical advance in 75 engine issue

Post by Magonsterz »

just realized i swapped over the mechanical advance from my blown 79 engine to my 75 engine and apparently created a situation. The 75 has static timing of 5 BTDC and 79 has ten, not well matched for the 75 cams, looks like ill have to swap 75 mech adv back in and if shaft id rotor cap rides on is too small for dyna ign ill have to swap back to points. Not a total mess jus have to put condenser back into action and dyna set up was free to me. Hope it doesnt upset carbs too much from a performance standpoint.
