Honda emblem on fuel tank

Post by billball »

Hi everyone,
I have a strange request, I just came back from an 850 km ride last weekend and parked my 1983 Goldwing GL1100 in the garage. I left for work out of town and my wife calls me to say the tank emblem on the right side is hanging down. She put it back in place and it stayed but nothing holding it, but since I'm not there can anybody tell me if it is screwed to the tank or glued I also have a Suzuki gs850 and I know that one is screwed and I have extra screws I don't think I would ever find this emblem if if fell off.

Thanks
Bill Ball

Hi Bill. The Honda emblem is held on the inside of the false tank by two small speed nuts that push on over the two plastic studs on the back of the plastic emblem. Sorry but I think one of the little studs must have broken off if the emblem was hanging down like that.

If the plastic stud is broken, you can fix it with a nail and Plast-Aid. Use a nail that is the same diameter as the stud and the head should be thin, so you may have to file it a bit. The Plast-Aid will bond the nail to the emblem and it will be stronger than ever. You can use a Dremmel tool to cut the nail to the right length. You local auto parts store sells the clips.
