I know I know..... Just change them, but I reckon the previous owner would have.
I removed cambelt covers today, the tensioner spins freely, the belts/teeth look great with no cracking or obvious aging. Can anyone give a second opinion on their thoughts and belt condition.
What do you think?
No history, but do these belts look good? Lol.

i have thrown away fresher-looking belts than that, and few people are as fiscally retentive as me. interference engine, not worth it to take a chance. if you know the previous owner personally, trust him, and have seen the receipt, then i would make an exception. otherwise ... gates t274 ... much cheaper and same quality as buying from honda.

Thanks for your view.
Could've said that before I got that bolt behind the radiator in!
Who/What is the GatesT274 you speak of?
I'm in the UK.

gates is a manufacturer of rubber belts and hoses. t274 is the part number that is an exact replacement for the oem belt and MUCH cheaper. there is also a napa and perhaps a goodyear equivalent ; not sure what you have over there. hope this link works ...

Those belts do not look fresh to me.
You can read about the belts and why you should be changing yours here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9774

The old, old, saying for these bikes:
If you don't know FOR SURE the history, get them changed!
5 years or 25000 miles, whichever is sooner, get them changed!
Been sitting for a long time without being turned over? Get them changed!
You really do not want either of the two belts to break. In fact, many times the first broken belt will take out the other one too.
If anyone needs belts for any of the four cylinders, I stock them:

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!
