GL1000 tool kit, paint and....

Post by BIMWing »

I just bought a 79 GL1000 in reasonable condition to restore and apply for collector plates. This is my 2nd Goldwing as I currently have a 94 GL1500.

One thing I've noticed is that there's no tool kit...
I'm assuming that the bike originally had one, although I'm not sure exactly where it's supposed to go if I find a replacement tool kit.

Also is the 79 a 80 model? I'm just trying to figure out what colour to repaint it as the current colour is not stock.

Oh... and any tips on what i should look out for when owning a GL1000.
Thanks.

the tool kit sits in a plastic tray which, in turn, sits on top of the air filter housing.

a 79 is not an 80 ... in 1980 they became the gl1100.

things to look out for ... check the stator output; check the physical condition of the (white) stator connector and the 3 yellow wires going to it (near the battery).

the handlebar switches on bikes this old tend to have dirty/corroded contacts, so if you have a no-crank / no spark / no turn signal / no horn problem that's one of the first places i look.
