New member and my shiny new ride

Post by GrumpyGrizzly »

My home and two of my GoldWings are in Vancouver, WA. My work has me in Phoenix, AZ for the next 6 months so like any crazy GoldWing lover, I went on CL and bought a 78 GW. 33k original miles. The only thing I can find that's been changed is the left side cover. It doesn't have the gold pinstriping on it that the rest of the plastic has.

I picked this jewel up for $1,350.00.

Yes my friends, life is good.

Welcome from Oklahoma! Great looking bike. I hope it has an air conditioner there in Phoenix.

Welcome to the club, Will you take it back to Vancouver with you when your time is up? I think importing rules might be a hassle!!

Have fun and watch you don't get too sun burnt riding in short sleeves on the wing in AZ!!

No importing rules apply. Last time I checked, WA state was still part of the US.. :)

Wow, the bike looks great. What are your plans for this one, as you have others so this one needs to find a way to complement them as it too is a great ride. Welcome to the site.

There's a Vancouver in Washington state, and confusingly, there's also a Vancouver (largest city on the Canadian west coast) just above it in British Columbia.

This one is mainly a better way to get around the SouthWest instead of using my non-air conditioned Jeep Wrangler I have down here with me. My youngest son (27 years old) might end up with it IF I head back to Vancouver, WA after this job is over. If work takes me to another site instead of sending me back to my home base, it'll travel with me to the next job.

I've thought about taking the Vetter fairing off and going the naked route but, the more I have blocking the Arizona sun on a ride, the better off I am. Even if it is black and a huge heat magnet, it'll block the blowdryer breezes on the highways a little.

I'll be heading for Las Vegas on it tomorrow to spend the weekend with some friends and then heading back on a different route on Monday.

I've got a co-worker that has a BMW R6 or 7 that's about the same age and we plan to take quite a few rides around the state to see what Arizona has to offer.

My Favorite ride in AZ is US Route 60 from Globe to Show Low. The Salt River Canyon is fantastic.

Perhaps you know of Bob's Motorcycle Yard on 1325 E Elmwood in Phoenix (not too far from the airport). So if you need something Goldwing and can handle used, they have a bunch of GL's out basking in the sun.
