Replacing The Clutch Cable

Post by landisr »

Good morning. I am attempting to replace the clutch cable on my '76 LTD. I am to the point where the manual says to 'remove the cable from the lifter'. Well, I cannot free the cable from the lifter. Was the lifter crimped at the factory? Try as I will, I can't disconnect the cable end. Can anyone shed any tips or tricks?

Many TIA.

Ron in AZ

Mine was crimped slightly also. Now, I don't remember exactly how I did it but the lifter has to be "uncrimped". That was in 2005/6.? I think I used a flat blade screwdriver to do it.

The screwdriver trick seemed to do it. That and removing the rear wheel to gain access from the back.

Thanks again.
