Today my starter switch decided to start acting up. If I turn the ignition key on, the bike will start cranking and never stop. After a few seconds the switch starts to smoke! Fortunately, it did this in the garage and not when I’m a hundred miles from home. The problem is I can find several replacement starter/kill switch assemblies for the 75/76 wings and nothing for the 77. It appears to be identical, but there must be some difference. The 75/76 has a different part number than the 77, but it’s not too far off. Has anybody tried to install a 75/76 switch on a 77?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Starter switch interchange…
I thought I would update this just in case someone was having this problem in the future and needed an answer. Nobody could tell me the difference between 75/76 and 77, so I ordered a 75/76 kill/starter switch assembly off the bay. The only difference I could see was that one wire was a different color and obvious cosmetic differences. I believe you could just install the entire assembly, play with the wiring a little, and it would work just fine. I didn’t want to do that as I didn’t want a “new” housing on the right bar and an old one on the left. So I cut both wiring harnesses, replaced the old starter switch with the new one, wrapped the harness in electrical tape, and now everything is working just fine. Nobody can tell that I’ve done anything unless they look closely at the harness where it enters the shelter. Long story short, yes the 75/76 kill switch/starter switch assembly will work on a 77.
