universal joint gl1000

Post by Michael woods »

I found a topic earlier discussing someone rebuilding the drive shaft and a 76 gl1000 I know it's the drive shaft is supposed to be non-rebuildable but I have access to a machine shop basically what I need to know is does anyone have a part number for that universal joint that I might cross reference it to

They are not intended to be rebuilt, but that doesn't mean that they can't be. The bearings are staked in place, but you can drill out the stake, press out the bearings and replace them.

Several years ago, Honda lost its suppliers of GL1500 U-joints, and getting a new supplier in place took some time. Because of this, Honda ran out of U-joints - for months afterwards, there were no new GL1500 U-joints to be had. Several machine shops popped up during that time that offered rebuild services for old, failed U-joints as a result.

That is the U-joint part number. You can see it in the diagram as part number 1, the u-joint is part of the propshaft.

If you're talking about the internal bearings of the joint, there is no part number for this, as it was never sold/supplied separately from the joint/propshaft. As I mentioned, it is "permanently" staked in place and not considered to be serviceable.
