Hello Gentlemen.
I am writing regarding my GL1000 76. I spent weeks with my bike and i was not able to fix this issue.
Cold bike is running on choke around 2-3min and when is hot i will turn it off. Idle is around 1100rpm. This is point when bike starts having problems. Issue is intermittent. Idle starts falling to 900-1000rpm and sounds like engine will die and then it will climb back to 1100. Next issue starts when i pull throttle fast or just little bit engine ends up in deaf point for one two seconds sounds like it will die rpms goes down little bit and then it will jump back. I have audio record but i am not able to post it here i can send it to email.
Thanks in advance for any ideas
What i checked and rebuilt:
Carbs cleaned and sync 100%
New carb seals
Checked floats hight
Changed manifolds seals
Timing belt pulleys replaced
Corrected timing belts tension
Compression around 116psi
Welded holes on exhaust

Re: Gl1000 76 throttle/IDLE intermittent issues
Hello
I have a 1976 Honda Gold Wing ,did the same as you with major tune-up and carb overhaul/sync & have the same issues but once warmed my bike will idle ok but has the lag when the throttle is initially opened, the GL1000 is well known for this lag once the throttle is opened from idle , it does not have an accelorator pump which is designed to spray a jet of gas into the carb throats once the throttle is blipped ,you should check this website as there is a modification which can be done to eliminate this problem

Re: Gl1000 76 throttle/IDLE intermittent issues
Hello Pablo.
Thank you for your reply. I will check link that you provided. As you said that throttle lag can be caused by lack of accelerator pump.
Idle issue I started to think about ignition because really carb is clean i changed seals sync is 100% belts and pulleys redone.
Year ago my bike was totally fine.... i already had few times fight with GL in my garage i spent weeks to find issue

Re: Gl1000 76 throttle/IDLE intermittent issues
Once my bike is warmed I like to keep the idle speed @ 1200 or higher ,this does two things prevent the surging @ idle & also reduces the rattle of the primary chain.Unlike most modern engines, there is no provision in the early GL1000 design for manual or automatic tensioning of the Primary Chain. So, as mileage accumulates – the clatter caused by primary chain slack will increase. Generally, this is only a problem when there is no load on the engine, i.e., at idle. Once under way, there is constant tension on the chain and the rattle will disappear. This was copied from Randakks website ,https://www.randakksblog.com/diesel-clatter/ you will find all you need to know about the GL1000 on his website.

I think your advance unit springs might be weak (loose). They need to be snug but not tight. If they are loose when you check them, remove 1/2 loop from each spring and that will probably be enough.

Re: Gl1000 76 throttle/IDLE intermittent issues
Hi George, I had the same problem with my 76 wing. Having checked points, timing and carbs (cleaned and sinc) I noticed that cil #2 & #4 affected almost nothing to idle when disconnected, so I changed spark plugs, got better idle but popping on right exhaust, changed other 2 spark plugs and bike improved a lot !!!, Now it starts at once in the morning with choke, idles and runs great and returns to idle fast when i arrive to a stop sign. The only issue I have now is mileage, around 7 km/lt, greater than my car, but it is aother issue to fix.
