Electrical Cable to Clutch Lever

Post by GL1000K1dan »

The 2-wire cable that connects to the clutch lever on my 76 model does not have a good fitment. The 2 small metal prongs (at the end of the lead) sit in the small hole at the clutch lever, but the cable is easily pulled out with no effort at all. This make me wonder if there is any proper wire-to-lever electrical connection.

I realise that if it's connected/secured correctly then, if the bike were in gear, it should not start. However, if there is a poor or loose connection, would the bike still start and run normally ?

Thanks

The cable shoudn't pull out so easy, it must have some restraintent to it in order to make a true connection.
This is to allow you to start the motor while in gear with the clutch pulled in.
Even if it has a loose connection, the motor will start normally while in neutral, as they're parallel circuits.

And how is the cable restrained in the clutch lever housing - Is it just an interference fit ?

Yes it is so. With a set of pliers try to close a little the plug, so it stays in place.
