78 GL1000 Clutch arm???

Post by tcepilot »

New member here. I was riding along and thought my clutch cable broke. Upon inspection, it was intact. The lifter arm (?) was over extended and the spring was double its normal length. I put a new cable on and did the full clutch adjustment and everything seems fine now.

What I wonder is why, and will it happen again? I think the arm jumped the ball bearings on the other side, but I have never had it apart and I’m not too familiar yet.

Good analysis, a proper setup and adjustment will prevent that from happening.

If you tighten the plate with the ball bearings against the clutch a little further (screw and locknut I think) you will not need so much movement on the clutch lever to disengage.

That’s what I was thinking. Would you agree that after proper adjustment, I won’t have this issue again? (Assuming it doesn’t come loose)
