Stalling

Post by Steve01 »

1976 GL1000
I have finished restoring my GL1000. Carbs rebuilt, synced, Dynatec coils and ignition with timing spot on. Bike starts up and runs great - but on the stand if I rev it up, when it comes back to idle it will drop to low RPM's and sometimes stall. Any thoughts at what to look for?

Thanks

Even though you rebuilt the carbs, the idle circuit on one or more carbs might be partially plugged. Remove the idle screw on each carb and pour a little gasoline into the hole. Then use a rubber tip air hose and blow air into the hole. The tiny tubes that stand up in the venturi often get plugged and this might open them up. Another place you can do the same is on the brass elbows where the pilot jet is located. Do this on each carb. If this does not solve the problem, check the advance springs. If they are too loose, you will get erratic idle problems. They should be snug, not tight. If they are loose, cut 1/2 loop off the end of each spring. Make sure the tension is the same on both springs.

Good ideas. I have new elbow jets and the advance has been gone through so I will try the mixture screws and report back.

Thanks

Same issue. I even rechecked the sync. I have tried different mixture screw adjustments also.
