Oil Leak

Post by monkiesinhell »

My gl1000 has a oil leak. More like a drip, when running there is a slow inconsistent drip that looks like its coming from a small hole (that is supposed to be there) on the right side of the engine (bottom). It seems to stop after engine is warm? Could the oil be coming from elsewhere?

A picture would be great to help us understand your concern. Sometimes a clogged breather will cause crankcase pressure to build, resulting in leakage.

Is this hole in the lower front of the engine? If so you have an o-ring leaking in the water pump.

I think the water pump makes sense because the leak look likes it could possibly be coming straight from that area. The breather is not the problem because its clear. I noticed that when I put the bike in gear on the stand, and moved through gears that the leak slowed down substantially almost to a stop.
