air filter alternative

i own a 78 gl1000 that needs a new air filter, the local dealers will have to order it or I can get it on line. but my question is there another filter that will be the same fit for a car or can I just put foam filter material to replace the dirty paper. Just curios

look for a K&N filter they are reusable, you just wash them & dry them and put them right back on the bike and you're good to go.

The stock filters are low restriction and last a very long time with an occasional blow out. I see no reason for a K&N

I don't think there are any crossover air filters available at auto parts stores except the K&N.
My opinion only! Any filter that increases air flow, especially one that you can see through has to allow more dirt to enter. But if you do go with the K&N don't forget to re oil it.
