I am redoing a 1978 GL1000 and putting a Watsonian sidecar I purchased with a 77 GL1K. Getting allot of experience in the light maintenance, ie: timing belt, water pump, etc.
Having issues with the rough running of the motor. Idols nice, however, RPM seems to make it miss considerably.
Inspected the points, just horrendous. The 77 had a set of electronic points. Should I convert?
Lot of time, but I know the payoff is coming.
Thanks, Mike

Hello and welcome to the forum.
You can always go with the Dyna S unit and replace the points and condenser.
Post some pics of the finished bike.

Wow, what a great project. Sounds very fun. To each his own, but I love the no maintenance of electronic ignition. The Dyna S is a great unit and Dyna supports their customers. I run dyna coils and wires too, and that let's you open up the plug gap from 0.26 to 0.35 for more spark, which helps when carbs are not perfect.
Your issue, may not be related to the ignition, but that is where I would start as it is very frustrating to do carb work when the ignition is not perfect.
