Electric fuel pump vs getting used fuel pump
Electric fuel pump vs getting used fuel pump
I'm trying to get my 1977 gl1000 running but I've hit an obstacle. I need to replace my fuel pump and wondering what everyone's thoughts are about electric pumps? I can't find a rebuild kit so it would be a used part or an electric pump.

Re: Electric fuel pump vs getting used fuel pump
It needs to be the same pressure and flow as the mechanical pump. Too much, and you'll push past the needle valve in the carb and overflow fuel out the vent. Too little, and the engine will starve of fuel under load. That is the challenge.

Thank you for the heads up with regards to pressure.

Re: Electric fuel pump vs getting used fuel pump
I highly recommend going with an electric fuel pump and I have instructions on how to do this. Send me a private message with your email address and I will send you the current version of my instructions.
These are some fuel pumps that will work great on the GL1000. I recently used a Holley 12-425 and it is currently my first choice. It mounts perfectly where the original fuel filter is located using a simple homemade bracket. See the picture below.
K&N 810400 fuel pump 1 - 2 psi and 15 gph
Holley 12-425 1.5 – 2.5 psi 25 gph
Facet-Purolator Posi-Flow 60210 or 60212 fue pump 1 - 2.5 psi 25 gph
Facet-Purolator Cube 40367 or 40352 1 - 2 psi and 15 gph
Facet-Purolator Cube 40163 1.5 - 2.5 psi and 17 gph
