Timing belt sprocket removal-'75 GL 1000
I have a leaking seal behind the RH (looking from the front of the engine) timing belt sprocket, so the sprocket has to come off to replace seal. I want to make sure that to remove the hex bolt that fixes it, one needs to turn it counter-clockwise ("lefty-loosey"), again as one is looking at the engine from the front? I see nothing in the manual that says otherwise, but want to make sure. Thanks in advance!

Hello!
The bolts for the timing sprockets are standard thread. I suggest using a small impact to remove. The sprocket can be freed with some penetrating lube and small whacks of a rubber mallet as they can be stubborn. Once you have play, work it in and out until it's free.
Are you going to remove the RH valve cover as well? You can free up the seal by doing this and by loosening the rocker arm assembly (or remove completely). Since these are old bikes now, sometimes part of the seal leaves crusted residue behind, make sure to clean all that up prior to a new seal being installed.
Good luck you ya!

Thanks for the info, fellerbrain. At the moment, I'm just going to replace the RH. sprocket seal (viewed from the front of the engine). The other sprocket seal is not leaking.
