O-rings front cover

Found the article to install a new water pump but have a question; located everything from the new gasket kit but there's one o-ring left over. I don't know where it fits (see red arrow). Does someone of you know? I'm installing a new water pump (GL1200 version) on my GL1000.

Pre and post 78 bikes use a slightly different o-ring for one of the mating surfaces. If your kit was made to fit all year models, then that's probably the post-77 ring.
