I did a search...
I have a '77 GL1000 and verified that the engine falls within the serial # range for a '77 as well. The carbs are off a '78, as evidenced by their serial numbers (769A). I have the factory service manual, and have seen how the '77 and '78 carbs differ both in venturi size and jetting.
My question is... before I throw Randakk's rebuild kit at these things, would it be worth my while to find '77 carbs? I'm not as interested in making everything match for a restoration as I am making it run well. Will the '78 carbs work on the '77 engine, or will I always have tuning issues?
Thanks!
Carb numbers wrong for year... will this be an issue?

The bike will run with the 78 carbs but not well. You will not be happy with it. Go with original carbs.

The performance will be better when all is said and done with the 77 carbs.
