76 Wing Rear Brake Rebuild Kit
Hi again. I am looking for a rebuild kit for the rear master cylinder. So far I'm finding front and rear for 78-79s, and front for the earlier Wings, along with the caliper kits. But no-go with what I'm looking for. Will the kits for the 78-79s fit my 76? Or can somebody steer me towards a direct kit?
Many TIA.

This site lists the kits as being for the 76 thru 79. I would e-mail him first and ask.

Re: 76 Wing Rear Brake Rebuild Kit
UPDATE: Well, 2 weeks now and cannot get any info from them about shipment. I am now finding kits available from other sources (DirectLine, etc), but they have different part #'s for my bike. So I'm concerned that when they finally do get here, they might not work. My buddy is going to help me pull the unit off and open it up to see if I can get by with just a thorough cleaning. We will also be looking for pieces/parts via local suppliers. He thinks it's most likely a problem with the rubber 'boot' and that they may be available individually, sold by size. Here's hoping. Stay tuned.

Re: 76 Wing Rear Brake Rebuild Kit
Update: I/we didn't get to check the bike out before the parts finally arrived. Last night we pulled the master cylinder and it was mainly just crudded up. It turned out we could have gotten away with just cleaning it up. The parts looked ok. We installed the new parts any way, and I am keeping the 'old' ones as spares. As for my experience with Crescent Moon Cycles, they were a bit expensive compared to other vendors, and their shipping was slow and pricey, and it took them over over a week to reply to email inquirys. Only one of 4 phone calls regarding status was able to be answered with success; the others either went to voice mail or they said they'd call back but didn't. In their defense, they ultimately completed the order, and the kit was correct for my bike. The rear brake works great once again, so other than missing a couple weeks of riding I'm a happy camper.
PS. The correct K&L part number for the rear master rebuild kit for a '76 Wing is 32-4267. Doing a Google search shows it is also available at Amazon.com and other places. And, my mechanic buddy says that typically it is the rubber 'cup' that fails, and they are indeed available at parts houses, sold by size. FYI

They are in the middle of a premises move at the moment and having trouble with the phone company I believe.WingAdmin wrote:You might want to add a comment about them on the vendor page: Crescent Moon Cycles
'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

Re: 76 Wing Rear Brake Rebuild Kit
I don't want to give them a bum rap if they are/were temporarily "distracted". I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Again, brakes are working, I am riding and am a happy camper. Thanks for the heads-up about vendor 'feedback', tho.

Everyone , even a business will have issues at one time or another. What matters is how often, and how they resolve the issues. I had very good service from them.
